      <title>Nature | Cracking the Koala Code | Preparing for a Eucalyptus Diet | PBS</title>
<description>Cracking the Koala Code premieres nationally Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 8/7c on PBS. The film explores the day-to-day dramas of an extended family of koalas, seen through the eyes of the scientists studying their every move and vocalization. Using 3G solar-powered mobile phones to record koala vocalizations, and applying their recordings in the field to evoke koala responses, scientists have managed to decipher some of the koalas' communications, providing new insights into the basic language and social structure of these marsupials. In this clip, a baby koala consumes his mother's pap, a secretion that will give the joey the bacteria needed to digest tough eucalyptus leaves. Cracking the Koala Code is part of the 30th season of the Peabody and Emmy award-winning series produced by Thirteen in association with WNET.ORG for PBS. Major support provided by Canon USA Inc.
