Description: In the eastern Chinese city of Hefei, a court passed a suspended death sentence on Gu Kailai, wife of ousted Communist Party Politburo member Bo Xilai, for murdering British businessman Neil Heywood.
The sentence means Gu should face life in jail provided she does not commit offenses in the next two years. At her trial on August 9, she admitted to poisoning Heywood last November in the central city of Chongqing because, she said, he had threatened her son. Zhang Xiaojun, a family servant, was sentenced to 9 years in prison for acting as an accomplice.
